Megan Hughes - Owner
Originally from Fresno, CA, the northwest became home to Megan
and her family in the summer of 1994, a few months prior to her
entering the sixth grade. Though the climate was less appealing
to the usually barefooted free spirit, she laced up her cleats to
field short hops at second base in a sport that eventually earned
her all league honors in high school. Megan was as a sophomore when
she met husband Michael, marking the beginning of an arm wrestling
rivalry in which she remains undefeated.
The two stayed local during college with Megan choosing Seattle
Pacific University for its interior design program, a decision she
says helped develop her unique style. And it was ultimately this
style that inspired Earth Babies, though not for another few years.
Upon graduating college Megan and Michael were married before spending
a month exploring Hawaii, both above and below water. Just midway
through the honeymoon Megan began her strategy for her next ambition:
getting a dog. Having chosen to nanny in avoidance of dress codes
and bad traffic, she had the perfect puppy schedule and within months
the newlyweds adopted Charlie, a 5 lb Yorkie mix and fabulous assistant.
The inter-species duo became so efficient together that, despite
watching 4 children under 4 years old, Megan was able to hand-make
her baby blankets.
In fact, Megan's first blanket was sewn as a baby shower gift for
her own childhood nanny and best friend. But starting a business
had never been part of the original plan and it took some convincing.
Two years, to be exact. It was not until Megan and Michael started
to plan parenthood that Earth Babies was born. It is the perfect
creative outlet for Megan's artistic personality and keeps her close
to what she loves--kids.
Currently Megan lives in Snoqualmie, WA and spends her free time
perfecting the culinary arts, a past time often combined with an
affinity for reality television. After becoming a homeowner in 2007,
the avid yogi considers her ethnic, earth toned dwelling "domestic
art." But it is her social and environmental consciousness
that makes Megan, a true earth baby.
